Some of the larger fountains can reach heights of 12 feet. Rockets shoot 50 – 300 feet in the air depending on the size, quality and atmospheric conditions. Simple bottle rockets will fly 50 to 75 feet in the air. Eight ounce rockets will shoot approximately 150 feet into the air.

Items that are classified as Safe and Sane include sparklers, snaps, smoke balls, fountains, snakes, and (in some cases) wheels. Items that are not classified as Safe and Sane include firecrackers, rockets, and cakes. Some States restrict legal fireworks to Safe and Sane items only.

The types of fireworks available to the public are multi-shot "cakes", Roman candles, single shot shooters, ground and wall spinners, fountains, cones, sparklers, and various novelties, such as smoke bombs and Pharaoh's serpents.
